TIPS for Planning the Perfect Honeymoon
With all the decisions you have to make surrounding your big day, the honeymoon is often an afterthought. In fact, many couples don’t even start planning the trip until after they’re already married. Want to simplify the process? Here are three tips you can use to easily and quickly make awesome honeymoon plans so you can cross that task off your to-do list and focus on preparing for your ceremony and reception:
Tip #1: Book it with a travel agent.
Yes, you can sometimes get a slightly better price if you book the flight, hotel, and other components of your trip separately and without using an agent, but for just a tiny bit more (or sometimes no more at all, depending on your destination and budget), a travel agent will take care of the plans completely. You just tell your agent where you want to go and what you want to do and he/she will put together an awesome travel package. Instead of spending several weeks doing it yourself, it will only take you a few hours.
Tip #2: Travel within the United States.
While that Caribbean cruise or trek through Europe might sound fun, international travel can cause headaches. You have to apply for a passport if you don’t have one already, and this can be complicated for brides if your name changes right before you’re scheduled to travel. To travel to some countries, you even need special shots from a doctor. International flights are also more commonly delayed, and this kind of vacation is typically more expensive. If you stick to a destination in the United States, you don’t have to worry about any of that, and there are tons of beautiful locations you can consider, including Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tip #3: Make the honeymoon part of your gift registry.
Let’s face it – a wedding registry might not make sense to you and your fiancé. At one time, registries were meant to help couples furnish their new homes together, but many couples today live together before marriage and most have at least lived on their own separately, so already have coffee makers and china. Instead of choosing household items, consider creating a registry with your travel agent so guests can contribute to your honeymoon travel costs. This makes it much less stressful to plan, since you’ll have financial help.
